Company History

Minimix joined the Lafarge Group in 2005.  It is our intention to maintain the quality and service provided by Minimix whilst adding the expertise and innovations of Lafarge.

The Company was originally established in 1989 by the previous owner and Managing Director Mr. Martyn Popham.  It provided a source of ready mixed concrete for a previously owned landscaping business. It was based in Caerphilly and operated with just one 1.3m3 mixer.

The business rapidly expanded and the number of vehicles increased to six over a period of four years. By November 1993, demand had outstripped existing capacity, so a new batching plant was purchased and sited at the company's existing head office at Viaduct Road, Gwaelod y Garth, Cardiff. The premises have easy access to the M4 and A470, ensuring prompt and efficient distribution service.

The Taff Well facilities include two modern concrete batching plants with computerised control systems. The batching process can produce either a dry mix for mixing in transit, or wet mix through forced action pan mixing.This process provides facilities for the sale of small to medium quantity mixes collected in customer vehicles, as well as standard mixes for delivery in company vehicles.

In April 1998 the company opened a batching plant at North Dock, Newport followed by a batching plant at its own quarrying operations at Ewenny near Bridgend in November 1999. These additional plants are both high output wet mix plants, which have dramatically increased our supply capacity to over 600m3 per day.

The recent erection of a new concrete plant at Briton Ferry capable of producing 80m3 per hour of ready mixed concrete or 80 tonne per hour of screed, enabled Minimix Limited to service a greater geographical area.   

The business has continued to grow over the years and currently employs over 100 staff.

The company can meet all customer requirements and strives to achieve full customer satisfaction. This philosophy has been endorsed by the introduction of a formal Quality System based on the requirements of QSRMC
