Product Hazard Data Sheet
  1. Identification
    Natural limestone aggregates
    (Crushed rock)

  2. Composition
Produced from naturally occurring rock, containing a combination of various minerals including silica.

  3. Identification of Hazards.
    Inhalation-
The main hazard associated with natural aggregates, is the inhalation of respirable dust.. Prolonged periods of inhalation can be harmful to health.
With prolonged periods of exposure to high levels of dust containing free silica in the form of quartz, there is the risk of developing silicosis.
    Contact with eyes-
May cause transient irritation to the eyes, especially in dusty environments.
    Skin contact-
May cause irritation. Prolonged or repeated contact may cause drying of the skin giving rise to dermatitis.
    Ingestion-Extremely unlikely.
  4. First Aid measures.
Inhalation-Remove the person to fresh air and seek medical attention if required.
Skin -Contaminated skin should be washed with clean water as soon as possible. Seek medical attention if irritation occurs.
Eye contact- Rinse immediately with clean water or sterile liquid. Seek medical attention if irritation continues.
Ingestion- If ingestion occurs remove the person from exposure and seek medical attention if required.
  5. Fire -The product is not flammable.
  6. Accidental Release Measures
Spillages: Cleaning up measures should avoid the generation of airborne dust.
Damp down with water before cleaning starts, wear suitable dust masks if required, be aware possible wind whipping. Avoid breathing in airborne dust. If possible use a vacuum.
Environmental issues: Release of dust in the environment does not constitute a significant environmental hazard, but, may be regarded as a nuisance under, Environmental Legislation
  7. Handling
Natural aggregates should be handled so as to minimize the creation of airborne dust. Measures such as containment by enclosure, spray suppression or local exhaust ventilation systems should be used where there is a risk of the creation of airborne dust.
  8. Personal Protection/Exposure Controls
Occupational exposure limits for airborne dust are given in the HSE Guidance Note EH40.

    Total inhalable dust
    10mg/m3 8Hour TWA

    Respirable dust
    4mg/m3 8 Hour TWA

    Respirable silica
    O.3mg/m3 8 Hour TWA

Skin -Impervious protective clothing and Gloves should be used to avoid skin contact.
Eyes- Suitable eye protection to BS EN 1664-4 should be worn to prevent dust
    entering the eyes.
Inhalation- Suitable respiratory protection should be worn to protect against the inhalation of airborne dust.
    Industrial Hygiene.
Personal hygiene is important. Washing facilities should be provided. Cleaning and storing facilities, storage for personal protective equipment and changing facilities should also be provided.
  9. Physical and Chemical Properties
Appearance- Various colours of odourless particles in the solid state form
Chemical properties not applicable under ambient conditions and normal use.
  10. Stability and Reactivity
    Not applicable
  11. Toxicological Information
Skin: May cause irritation with prolonged or repeated contact possibly leading to dermatitis.
    Eyes: May cause transient irritation.
Inhalation: Prolonged exposure may give rise to respiratory illness such as chronic bronchitis, pneumoconiosis and silicosis.
    Ingestion: Extremely unlikely
  12. Ecological Information:
No adverse ecological behaviour or effects.
  13. Disposal considerations
Waste Material, dispose as inert material under current requirements and
    regulations.
  14. Transport Information
This product is not classified as hazardous for transport.
  15. Regulatory Information
This material is not classed as dangerous for supply in the UK.
  16. Other information
Possession of this health and safety data sheet does not constitute an assessment of risk as required by statute The Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1999 and the COSHH Regulations 1999.
The information given in this Product datasheet, details the hazards associated with the products so that customers and users can take the necessary steps to protect themselves and others who may be third party to their eventual use.
